Be Yourself Always
Mountains don't bend for anyone,
Seas don't change their course for us,
Birds don't stop singing in summer,
The sun doesn't turn cold and fuss.
Nature never masks her anger,
Lashing out with storms and floods,
While clouds never hide their pain,
Weeping and drenching small buds.
So why try to change your essence?
When Nature never changed her own,
Why hide your views to please others?
Despite the truth you've always known.
Why forget you're made unique?
You deserve love as you are,
Hearts that don't force you to choose,
But accept you with each scar.
So never change for anyone,
The right people won't leave,
They'll stay despite your worst flaws,
And hold you when you grieve.
There's nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it's sent away.
Sarah Kay
Wildflowers are the loveliest of all because they grow in uncultivated soil, in those hard, rugged places where no one expects them to flourish… People are the same, son—the most exquisite souls are those who survive where others cannot.
Micheline Ryckman
Love is like a wild rose; the thorns will only make your heart bleed if you touch it without care.
Laura Chouette
Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it will evade you.
Henry David Thoreau
Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.
Marilyn Monroe
This is a story of years back. I was at an informal office team outing at a cafe.
We had dinner there. The music was too loud.
I suggested that we have icecream outside. This would also help me get away from the loud music (which was getting uncomfortable for me).
However, my suggestion was dismissed. This reminded me of another incident.
A get-together of friends. Again I expressed my wish to have an icecream.
Since no one else wanted this, I said it was okay if I didn't have icecream. I’d have it some other time.
A friend noticed. Insisted that I should have icecream. Made all other friends wait when I had the icecream.
Also, despite my protests, paid for the ice-cream as a treat! The gesture was unforgettable and made me smile.
I realised that for the right people, you'll never be too much. Your wishes will be important to them, even if they're inconvenient sometimes.
1) Farouche (French)
Someone who appears shy, timid or socially awkward but has a wild or untamed quality underneath.
2) Ya’arburnee (Arabic)
A hopeful declaration that you will die before someone you love deeply does, because you can’t stand to live without them.
3) Querencia (Spanish)
A place where a person feels safe, at home, and fully yourself.
4) Kuchisabishii (Japanese)
Lonely mouth. The urge to eat, not because of physical hunger, but because the mouth feels empty.
5) Tingo (Pascuense, Easter Island)
Continuously borrowing items from a neighbour and not returning them.
Write a fun story about what your shadow does when you're asleep.
Share your story in the comments section! Here's mine:
My shadow was bored. She never pays attention to me, it thought.
Furious, he went to Dreamland. There it met an old woman. Sadly narrated how it was ignored.
The woman got angry. She promised it justice.
Coming in my dream, she chased me everywhere. On the stairs, roads, my society, rooftops. I couldn't get rid of her.
Suddenly, I tripped while running. She came closer and her hand reached out for my throat.
At that moment, I woke up, heart racing. I looked at my shadow thankfully, happy it was just a dream.
The shadow was very happy that I noticed it. It told the woman to stop troubling me. I then fell in a deep sleep.
The painting below by Michael Cheval is titled Sounding Silence. I loved how it captures so many steps of creating music- from thinking of music to playing music on the piano.
Author's Note:
I was inspired by Reader's Digest magazines to create this digest.
While this was fun, brainstorming and ensuring good content took a lot of time.
So, if you think this was genuinely good and you can afford it, please consider buying me a coffee/becoming a monthly supporter.

When I fall asleep,
my shadow slips off the wall
and stretches its quiet limbs.
It wanders the house barefoot,
checking the windows,
listening to the moon
hum against the glass.
By morning it is back beside me,
plain as ever,
pretending it never left at all.
My Shadow
When I sleep,
my shadow clocks in
it takes the night shift
handling what I keep rescheduling
it rehearses conversations
with better timing than me
files complaints I won’t admit
and wins every argument
by dawn
it hands me back my shape
slightly overqualified
and a little ☹️ disappointed!
